Healing Water Meditation

This guided imagery, also known as visualisation based meditation practice is designed to help relieve and reduce both acute and chronic pain. The more often you do this exercise, the more profound and long lasting the effects will be, so even if you do not have the results you expected after the first time, keep going back.

This type of visualisation is now used even by many of the most "mainstream" medical professionals, and has helped me to manage very severe, chronic, pain for many years. It has allowed me to do so without having to rely on pain medications other than VERY rarely - averaging about one day per month - as opposed to every day, before I started using these techniques. It helps countless people every, single day, and can work for you too if you let it!

As with all the meditations found on this site, you should read all the way through this page at least once before you try to do the meditation.

Before you start:

• As this exercise is listed as "intermediate", it will be assumed that you are already familiar with basic meditation and breathing techniques, as well as typical preliminary steps for preparing for a meditative practice, so most of the usual pre-practice instructions for beginners will be dispensed with, both on this page and on the accompanying track.

• It also builds upon techniques and visualisations covered in prior exercises, including the White Light Meditation, Reaching Your Alpha Level, and Finding your Secret Place, in that order. If you have not yet done all three of those, please go back and complete them before attempting this practice. If you have done those, and feel comfortable with them, great!

• You can start the guided meditation track at this point, after you have read through this page once (or re-start it, if you have paused it to read this page).

Meditation Instructions

• Begin with a few mindful breaths, remembering to notice and let go any distracting thoughts.

• Close your eyes and take two cleansing breaths. Remember, in through your nose, and blow it out through your mouth.

• Next, a good, deep, belly breath.

• Now another one. This time, as you are breathing in, see the White Light of protection coming into your nostrils and filling your lungs. Breathe in and feel the calmness of the White Light as it enters your body and begins to spread itself throughout your system. Just sit there, breathing comfortably, feeling the White Light coming in and working within you.

• As the white light flows through you, now focus on your shoulders. Tense them as much as you can and raise up to your ears as you inhale deeply. Hold that for three seconds, and allow your shoulders to relax again as you exhale. Now, move your attention to your feet. Inhale and tighten those muscles by pressing your feet firmly into the floor or ground.Hold the tension and breath for three seconds... And exhale, relaxing and allowing the tension or discomfort flow out and away.

• Now, see the white light coalescing into its mist form. You are going to go to your Alpha Level through this mist this time.

• See the mist
change colour to Red. See it and know that you have seen it. As soon as you do, it is shifting to Orange, Then down to Yellow, to Green, , and down to Blue. And now all the way down to Violet, the final colour.

• Now that you are surrounded by the purple mist or a cloud at your Alpha Level, look in front of you and will see a familiar, white, marble corridor. Once again, there is a light at the end of this corridor. Start walking toward the light, knowing what you will find when you arrive.

• There is that staircase. You've been here before - travelled these 21 stairs. You know your way, so begin your journey down the stairs. You are on the top step. Take the first step down to the 20th step, and the 19th.

• The 18th, 17. 16, 15. You are heading for the sacred depths of your Alpha Level.

• Down to the 14th step, and the 13th, 12, 11, 10, 9. Deep, deep into your Alpha Level now.

• 8, 7, 6, 5... Almost there. 4, 3, 2, 1.

• You are at the bottom of the stairs. Both feet are on the landing at the bottom of the stairs. You are in the deepest place of your Alpha level.

• As always, you are in complete control, and can return at any time. As long as you remain here, nothing can negatively affect you. Nothing can disturb you. No matter what happens in the outside world, you are safe and supported here.

• Look ahead of you. There is the door to your Secret place, just as you last saw it. You can touch the key on its necklace, and know you could enter that place, but this is not your destination right now. Look to the right of your door. Now you can see that the hallway continues beyond that door. There are other doors lining the hallway. They are all beautiful, each in their own way.

• Walk slowly, seeing the colours and designs on the various doors. You are looking for a particular one. You will immediately recognise it when you see its soft shades of greens, blues, and golds, evoking a sense of lush forests and serene waters. Go to this door.

• When you reach it, you may realise there is no visible doorknob or or lock. How curious. Place both of your palms on the face of the door. Now you see why. Your intent is the key, the door opens to admit you to the most verdant and beautiful forest you have ever seen. Even from the outside edge, you can see hints of leaves, vines, and blooms of every shape, size and colour you could imagine, and some you couldn't - until now - all fairly bursting with a sense of health and vitality.

• Immediately before you is a path, carpeted in rich soil and fresh grass that caresses your bare feet as you take your first steps into this beautiful wood and the door softly closes behind you, awaiting your return.

• As soon as you are just a few steps in, you begin to hear the sounds of singing birds and flowing water. The gently winding path takes you closer to the water, and soon, you find yourself walking along the edge of a crystal clear, rushing stream.

• The path continues, until it opens up into a garden-like clearing, filled with an abundance of all the plush grasses and vibrant flora you fleetingly glimpsed before, but now spread before your eyes in all its lavish splendour. The sun is shining, its warming rays tempered by a cool and gentle breeze coming off the water, creating perfect balance.

• In the center of the clearing, the crystal stream empties into a large pool, formed of smooth stone in varied, lustrous hues, reflecting the shimmering surface of placid waters and imbuing it with faintly fragrant minerals, the scent rising to combine with that of the plant life in full bloom and lightly perfuming the entire clearing.

• As you move closer to the pool, realise that the water within is not as still as it first appeared. Small eddies burble in soft, melodious swirls, along with a gently bubbling effervescence, and luminescent shades of blues and greens cavort in the ripples they cause.

• Step right up to the edge of the pool, where there resides a waist high formation of the same, colourful stone, that slopes gradually down into the water. It is the perfect height to rest a steadying hand as you gaze into the water. Now you can see that the transparent greens and blues radiate from the edges and into an ethereal, golden glow, emanating from the very center of the pool.

• When you glance down just in front of your feet, you notice that there are broad, shallow steps leading down into the pool, and the stone upon which your hand rests is actually a perfectly formed, natural balustrade alongside them. Take the first step into the water, where it just barely comes up to your ankles.

• The water is a comfortable, warm temperature. Step down to the second stair, then the third, where you are calf deep into the pool, and begin to notice that where the water is touching your body, you feel a sense of comfort - relaxation - as though the water is washing away any tension or discomfort.

• Now, take two more steps, down onto the fifth step of the pool, so that the water goes up to your knees. You are nearing the center of the pool now. Again, notice that wherever the water touches you, you feel more and more comfortable. Somehow, this swirling, luminous water is soaking into your body and washing away any discomfort.

• Step down further into the water now, and sit on a step, so that the water reaches your waist and you are only a few steps away from the center. It is warmer here, and more of the golden colour is mixing with the greens and blues as you get closer to the pool's center. As you sit, allow your arms to drift into the water for a bit, feeling the almost immediate release of tensions, itches, and aches as they enter the water.

• Raise your hands out of the water and look at them. See that some of the golden glow seems to remain on your hands and arms, where they were submerged. As you raise them up higher, the drops that fall onto your shoulders and upper arms create small rivulets of ease and comfort wherever they land, and you now realise the areas which are fully immersed are infusing with even further relief, the longer they soak in the water.

• Next, scoot down the steps until you are up to your neck, right in the middle of this healing pool, your entire body completely supported by the warm, glowing water. As the water soaks into your body, comfort and relaxation flood in with it, bathing any tight, tense, or painful areas of your body in soothing, relieving warmth, gently washing pain and tension away.

• As you become more and more calm, relaxed, and comfortable, lean your head back into the water, as you would if you were floating, and now close your eyes, here in this place, allowing all but your nose and mouth to sink into the vibrant water. The ripples lap softly around the exposed bit of your face, and your entire body sways slightly in the supporting cradle formed by the waters of this curative pool, caressed by the aromas of flourishing life, beauty, and wellness released by the many, fragrant flowers and the minerals in the water.

• Go ahead and completely relax into the comfort you are experiencing. Enjoy the sensations as the water temperature heats intensely around the areas which need it, while soft eddies of cool, refreshing water periodically flow exactly where they are needed, when they are needed, so there is perfect, blissful balance at all times. Feel the aches, pains, tensions, and any stress wash away, to be replaced by a pleasant, golden, tingling feeling that eventually suffuses every part of your body and mind, leaving you bathed in nothing but a calm, blissful serenity.

• And just allow yourself to rest in this moment, free of concern, free of pain, free of stress.. Free to luxuriate in this wonderful place a little while longer.

• And now, as you sense that you will soon need to return to your day, you realise the pool has been gradually cooling, refreshing and invigorating you, without taking away from the relaxed calm and ease that you still feel. Slowly raise your head and sit back up on the step. Duck your entire head under the water for a few seconds if you like, to further refresh and revitalise your senses. And now open your eyes again to the pool and its surroundings. Take in the beauty all around you, as you unhurriedly stand and begin to make your way up the steps and out of the pool, the effects staying with you even as you exit the healing water.

• When you reach the top, you now notice that a couple of huge, fluffy towels have been laid out over the rock formation, warming in the sun, waiting for you this whole time. With those, combined with the warming sun and gentle breeze, you are dried off and back in any comfortable clothing you might desire before you know it.

• You know it is time to leave this place for now, but also that you can return at any time you wish. Take one more look all around the clearing, drinking it all in, to take with you as you embrace whatever the rest of your day has to offer, and now cross the clearing to the path that will guide you back, through the majestic trees, alongside the rushing stream, the path now curving away from the water, on the last stretch of the trail. Now you can see the door again.

• As you approach the door, it glides open, beckoning you forward, as though it too knows it is time to return. As you pass through the door and it closes silently behind you, know that it is here, always ready to open to your touch and admit you once again. You know exactly where to find it now, just beyond the door to your own Secret place.

• Now turn back to the left of this door and begin to make your way back along the hallway. When you see the door to your Secret Place, you know you have almost reached the stairs. In fact, you are just coming to the base of them now now.

• As I count, see yourself stepping on each step and going up the staircase to the top of the stairs.

• Ready?

• Take the lst step up.

• Now move upward to the 2nd step, and the 3rd, 4th , 5th.

• To the 6th step, and the 7th, 8th, 9, 10.

• You are halfway to the top now.

• Up to the l1th. 12, 13, 14, 15.

• Higher and higher now. 16, 17, 18, 19.

• Almost there. 20. 21. You are on the top step.

• Now continue to go back the way you first came and you will see the marble corridor. There is a purple-ish light at the other end of the corridor. Start walking toward that light. When you reach it, stop.

Now let yourself be bathed in that violet or lilac colour. Feel it all around you like a mist or a fine cloud. You are fully surrounded by this purple colour.

Now that colour changes up into Blue.

It changes up into Green.

Up into Yellow.

Up into Orange.

Up into Red.

• Welcome back. When you are ready, open your physical eyes, have some fresh water, and prepare to continue with your day - refreshed, invigorated, and feeling wonderful!
